The Heritage Hotel Manila in cooperation with the Earth Day Network & Greenpeace present the dual celebration of Easter and Earth Day to double the delight of diners to the unique egg-citing and environment-friendly special lunch buffet and family activities on April 24, 2011, Lunch Buffet, 11.30 AM- 2.30 PM at the Riviera Cafe. 

Children are encouraged to blaze a trail in expressing their ideas and commitment for the one-of-a-kind “Save the Planet” On the Spot Drawing for Cake Contest to win a fabulous prize. Artworks are sketched on paper, scanned, printed on edible material and meticulously placed on a cake for a memorable and yummy souvenir.  Treats aplenty courtesy of Sweetlink, Magnolia Chocolait, Jellyace, Cherifer, PedZinc, Timezone, Starpaper – Conqueror, Insular Life, Unilever, Ecothings, URC - Animal Bites, Presto, Refresh, Leslies - Cheezy Puffs, Cheezy and other sponsors.

The eco-friendly event comes on the heels of the Heritage Hotel’s participation in the “Earth Hour 2011 and Beyond.” The symbolic act of the Earth Hour is a significant step towards raising awareness and fostering commitment for concrete actions for a better planet in the long-run. The Heritage Hotel integrates measures in its operations to reduce its carbon footprints, conserve energy and preserve the ecosystem in order help curb global warming and climate change. 

Taking a step forward and beyond the Earth Hour switching off the lights campaign, the Heritage Hotel fosters a sustainable lifestyle in its Easter event. All the materials and props used in the Easter festivity are recyclable and Earth-friendly. The Easter fork, knife, spoon and meal containers for guests are made of taterware, material made of 100% biodegradable, compostable and GMO-free potato starch.

While the fun arts and crafts activities for parents and the little ones are geared towards imbibing the 3Rs of re-use, reduce and recycle for nurturing mother Earth.

Earth Hour Goes Beyond the Hour

On its 4th year, Earth Hour 2011 is slated to take place on Saturday 26 March 2011 at 8.30pm to 9.30pm. In unity with the global community, the Heritage Hotel Manila once more heeds the call to get involved and lead the steps towards a sustainable future.

This year’s challenge goes beyond the hour and dares each individual, community and business to rethink practices and contribute ways to reduce our carbon footprints, conserve energy and preserve the ecosystem in order to help curb global warming and climate change.

SWITCH OFF CEREMONY
The Hotel will turn off prominent lights and signage at the Hotel’s façade. The Hotel will switch off other lights at the ground floor. Alternative lighting such battery-operated lights will be used in the Hotel’s Lobby area, Lobby Lounge and Riviera Café.





EARTH HOUR CAKE CUTTING CEREMONY

The chefs at the kitchen theatre of the Riviera Café showcase the best of Philippine flavors in its fanciful Lambanog-infused gourmet creations, the latest addition to the restaurant’s dynamic and multi-hued international menu for lunch/dinner buffet spread.

Have a taste of the country’s bucolic life in the merry zest of Lambanog seeped in Drunken Shrimps, Stir fried Beef & Vegetable on Rice Toppings, Chicken Rice Toppings and Deep Fried Battered Crablets which the chefs will conjure hot and fresh off the wok and grill to indulge the guests’ whim. 

While anticipating the culinary explosion of aromas and spices mingling with Lambanog in the live cooking station, jumpstart to firing up the appetites with Lambanog-steeped nibblers of Marinated King Mackerel Loins with Orange Lambanog Sauce, Crispy Fried Tofu and Chicken with Soya Lambanog Dip, Blue Lambanog Marinated Salmon with Herbs, Lambanog Seasoned Japanese Salad on Peppered Seared Tuna, Lemon Lambanog Marinated Prawn Ceviche and Roast Beef & Vegetable with Balsamic Lambanog Reduction.

Known as the Philippine version of Russian Vodka for its taste and potency of 80 to 90 proof and akin to Grappa for its roots and popularity among the farmers, the fascinatingly-prepared Lambanog is harvested by farmers climbing the 30-feet high coconut trees. Using a bamboo and sickle, the farmer collects the sap or “tuba” from the sap of flowers. Subsequently, the sap is fermented and distilled for hours to make Lambanog. This Philippine vodka is traditionally produced in the Quezon Province where the coconut tree grows in abundance. Quaffing Lambanog is a communal tradition of tagayan or a round robbin of drinking shots accompanied by singing and playing of guitar. 

For foodies, sampling Lambanog mixed in the international culinary selection at the Riviera Café is a short cut to experiencing the traditions and subdued kick of this strong-flavored beverage.

Participate in the Yu Sheng Prosperity salad ceremony and have a first hand experience of the traditional “Lo Hei!” which is Cantonese for "tossing luck" with special someone, family and friends. This ingenious dish traces its roots in Singapore and Malaysia. Diners make a wish and shout “Lo Hei!” for good fortune while mixing and flinging the ingredients together with chopsticks.  The Yu Sheng Prosperity Ceremony follows a sequence of steps. First of all, each dinner must great each other with warm greetings. Then, the fish, symbolizing abundance or excess through the year, is added to the main ingredients and followed by lime for luck. Pour the next ingredients such as pomelo over the fish to add both luck and auspicious value, pepper to attract more money and valuables, oil to increase all profits 10,000 times and to encourage money to flow in from all directions, carrots for more blessings of good luck and shredded white radish for prosperity in business and promotion at work. Lastly, add the condiments such as peanut crumbs to symbolize a household filled with gold and silver, sesame seeds for flourishing business, golden pillows crispers to signify the floor filled with gold. Simply mix everything together and push all the ingredients to the center. All toss the salad an auspicious seven times with loud shouts of “Lo Hei!” for personal wishes in business and matters of the heart.
 
All The Way to Culinary Thrills
Couples must also try, the Riviera Café’s signature Malaysian and Singaporean dishes particularly the Satay, Hainanese Chicken Rice and Laksa. Don’t miss the Satay, the trail of this mouth-watering aromatic scent precedes is a favorite Singaporean street hawker’s delight, leading you to the fresh-off-the-grill savoury chicken, mutton or beef steeped in a sweet-spicy marinate. This must-try gastronomic treat tastes best with a punchy peanut sauce for dipping, and fresh cucumbers, raw onion and steamed rice cakes on the side. On the other hand, Laksa Sizzlethe dinners’ senses with the irresistible concoction of noodles made from rice flour swathed in velvety gravy made from spices, herbs, dried shrimp, coconut milk and chili. Most importantly, pour the heart’s gusto to Hainanese Chicken Rice, the provocative fragrant rice cooked in chicken stock and other secret ingredients, impeccably accompanied by steamed or roasted chicken and the contrasting flavours of dark soy sauce, ground ginger paste, and chili sauce on the side.

For some grilling action, sample the fresh Red Mullet, Squids, Salmon Belly, Red Snapper, Rib Eye; Herb Marinated, Barbeque Marinated Chicken, Chicken / Beef Satay, Served with 6 type of Barbeque sauce. Satiate the carnivore cravings at the carving nook for Roast Rib Eye with Prime Ribs, Baked Salmon, Beef Wellington or Roasted Stuffed Lamb Leg Served with sauces.

Go for Chinese favorites such as the Steamed Hand-Made Hong Kong Dim Sum in Bamboo Basket, Teow Chew Porridge & Condiments - Braised pork belly with salt yellow bean, Egg omelette, Pickle lettuce, Olive vegetable, Salted egg / century egg, Braised soya duck, Sichuan vegetable, Preserved beancurd and Wok fried roasted pork with soya sauce.
